Drama | Coláiste Mhuire
Transition Year in Coláiste Mhuire has a huge drama element. Working closely with the Mullingar Arts Centre we produce regular show while a number of our students also play lead roles in Loreto Mullingar's productions. More often than not, students uncover a love for the stage, many of our students realise a talent they were entirely unaware of. The confidence gained from participation in these productions is immense and students often gain a belief in their own abilities as they master the challenge of performance on stage. Proving our All-Ireland success is not confined to the sports field, our TYs picked up a national title in the Scoildrámaíochta in 2018.
Teachers in Coláiste Mhuire share a passion for this discipline and weekend rehearsals and evening productions have become a regular occurrence for Ms. Hourican, Ms. Holohan and Ms. Seery, while other teachers are often backstage to help out on the nights of the performance. However, the production is predominantly the work of the students. Under the guidance of the Mullingar Arts Centre, weeks of tireless practice is invested by students in refining their new found craft for performance.
Since this art involves huge allotments of time, drama is mostly a feature of Transition Year. Nevertheless lovers of the stage can showcase their capabilities at the annual talent show in November.
